Pycap joined Sci Innovation at City Hall on March 23 to help select leading tech companies with Pycap CEO acting as a judge. The event was put on by the Canadian branch of the China (Shenzhen) Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, aiming to help foreign innovation and entrepreneurship projects connect with China.
The Sci Innovation Competition selected 20 companies to represent Canada at the China Shenzhen Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (IEIC) in April 2019. The ten finalists from the Sci Toronto competition will be awarded cash prizes of up to $20,000 CAD each, plus an expense-paid trip to compete at what has been called “The International Olympics of Entrepreneurship.” The Canadian branch featured 20 finalists that have been selected through regional competitions in Toronto, Waterloo, Ottawa, and Montreal. Each competitor will pitch their projects to a panel of expert judges for a chance to win prizes from a pool of $2.09 million CAD. Competition sectors included:

Pycap CEO Stuart Browne participated as a returning judge for the TiEQuest startup pitch competition on March 9. The TiEQuest screens over 100 entrepreneurs to compete over a $50,000 prize. Companies include those with technology and artificial intelligence solutions for the healthcare, financial services, accessibility, and other industries. Past participants have raised over $20 million collectively.
TiEQuest was put on by TiE Global. TiE Global is the largest non-profit organization. TiE connects the entire entrepreneurship ecosystem from early stage entrepreneurs, serial entrepreneurs, professionals at leading corporations, venture capital, angel investors, thought leaders among others. The organization emphasizes the spirit of giving in all aspects of their work. There are currently 11,000 members, including over 2,500 charter members in 60 chapters across 17 countries. TiE’s mission is to foster entrepreneurship globally through mentoring, networking, and education.
