Pycap, Ecosystem Partner for Schulich Startups - Krista Kim’s Heart Space at Toronto Tech Week 2026

Pycap Ecosystem Partner Schulich Startups Toronto Tech Week Kristi Kim

Toronto Tech Week 2026 (running from May 25–29) serves as a citywide gathering for founders, investors, and builders, bringing together tens of thousands of participants across hundreds of community-led events. As an active ecosystem partner to Schulich Startups, venture capital and financial advisory firm Pycap attended a flagship event co-hosted by the Schulich Office of Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Pursuits Inc., and Demo Room.

The event, titled "When Worlds Converge: Art, AI & the Future of Human-Centered Innovation," took place at Toronto's Demo Room venue, highlighting the cross-section of advanced technology, digital security, and contemporary art.

The Background: Toronto Tech Week and the Convergence of Art & AI

The event served as the official public announcement and advance preview of the Heart Space Canadian exhibition tour scheduled for 2027. The panel and presentations addressed the growing necessity of "proof-of-humanity" protocols and digital identity protection as artificial intelligence and synthetic media continue to scale globally.

For Pycap, participating in these discussions aligns with its ongoing role in supporting emerging technology frameworks, early-stage business growth, and ecosystem development within the Canadian tech sector.

Spotlighting Krista Kim’s Art and Achievements

Central to the event was a keynote by internationally acclaimed Canadian-Korean artist Krista Kim, who is returning to Canada following major international exhibitions in cities such as London, New York, Paris, Dubai, Shanghai, and Seoul.

Kim is recognized for pioneering the "Techism Movement" in 2014, a philosophical framework that views technological innovation as a legitimate artistic discipline. Her career achievements include:

  • Global Recognition: Named a Cultural Leader of the World Economic Forum and recognized by UNESCO as one of the "50 Minds for the Next 50."

  • Industry Awards: Recipient of the 2025 Infinity Festival Monolith Award for Fine Art and consecutive Excellence in Digital Art Awards at the Créateurs Design Awards in Paris (2024 & 2025).

  • Institutional Firsts: The first female NFT artist to have work collected by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), with further high-profile exhibitions at the Hermitage State Museum, Times Square, and the Sphere in Las Vegas.

  • Interdisciplinary Roles: Serving as the Metaverse Editor for Vogue Singapore and holding a membership with the Oxford Society of Aging and Longevity.

The Philosophy of Heart Space: Biometrics as the Ultimate Human Safeguard

As outlined in Kim's recent documentation on the philosophy behind Heart Space, the project positions the human heartbeat as a revolutionary technology for the modern era. In an landscape increasingly populated by deepfakes, automated bots, and generative AI capable of mimicking human voice and facial features, traditional identifiers are becoming highly vulnerable to manipulation.

Heart Space acts as a philosophical and functional response to this existential challenge. It approaches the human body’s bio-electrical output not merely as healthcare data, but as an irreplicable asset of individual sovereignty. The project advocates for "AI Humanism"—utilizing advanced algorithms to bridge data with deeper human connection, empathy, and decentralized identity, rather than treating information as a purely commercial transaction. Within the installation, these internal rhythms are mapped into five distinct chromatic zones reflecting real-time emotional and equilibrium states:

  • Yellow: States of equilibrium, calm, and clarity.

  • Green & Blue: Moderate affective registers and steady presence.

  • Purple: Heightened emotional arousal.

  • Pink: The apex of emotional intensity.

Technical Infrastructure: Tenbeo’s Role in Cardiac Authentication

The critical hardware and software architecture driving Heart Space is developed by Tenbeo, an ethical biotechnology and security firm based in Brussels, Belgium. Founded in 2019, Tenbeo has pioneered an authentication infrastructure rooted in advanced biometric AI and zero-knowledge proof architecture.

Tenbeo’s involvement bridges the gap between digital art and high-security utility through several core components:

  • Proprietary AI Modeling: When participants interface with Tenbeo’s specialized one-lead stainless steel ECG electrode sensors, an AI trained via deep learning analyzes more than 250 distinct features of the user's electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform. The resulting mathematical model—the "Heart Signature"—attains a 99.98% authentication accuracy rate.

  • Zero-Knowledge Cryptography: Crucially, the system operates under a zero-knowledge protocol. It generates a non-transferable, immutable cryptographic private key pair directly from the heart’s electrical patterns without storing, extracting, or transmitting raw biometric data to the cloud. This ensures identity is verified locally on the device without creating centralized vulnerability points.

  • Real-World Anti-Spoofing and Utility: Beyond the exhibition walls where four participants simultaneously merge their heart signatures onto a shared 4K digital canvas, Tenbeo is scaling this technology for commercial applications. This includes their consumer device, Livbeo®, designed to act as a physical human security layer to prevent phishing, identity fraud, and unauthorized actions by autonomous AI agents. At the event, it was noted that these personalized heart signatures are expanding into digital watermarks for emails and platforms, allowing users to provide heart-based cryptographic approval across digital networks.

Ecosystem Collaboration and Networking

The afternoon session featured cross-disciplinary panel discussions and live demonstrations of Tenbeo’s continuous authentication and AI identity security layers. This was followed by an evening networking reception designed to connect local startups, investors, and ecosystem partners. The social component featured startup tech demonstrations alongside food stations hosted by YSpace Food & Beverage and the Black Entrepreneurship Alliance.

Through its attendance and ongoing collaboration with Schulich Startups, Pycap continues to monitor and engage with the key technical movements, security innovations, and creative platforms shaping the Canadian technology landscape heading into 2027.
