Pycap and University of Toronto’s SICIEEIL Collaboration: Supporting the Graduation of its Emerging Startups
Pycap Members Graduate UTSC SICIEEIL LevelUp Program
Venture capital firm and federal Startup Visa (SUV) designated incubator Pycap has established a strategic collaboration with the Sam Ibrahim Centre for Inclusive Excellence in Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Leadership (SICIEEIL) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC). This partnership focuses on embedding pre-vetted, high-growth international startups into a university-based innovation ecosystem, providing them with localized programming, academic networks, and specialized facilities in the Eastern GTA.
As part of this ongoing ecosystem collaboration, several emerging technology ventures introduced to the ecosystem through Pycap recently achieved a significant milestone by graduating from SICIEEIL’s intensive "LevelUp" venture-building program. The cohort's progress culminated in the formal LevelUp Graduation and Pitch Competition event.
Core Objectives of the SICIEEIL and Pycap Partnership
The collaboration bridges corporate venture capital advisory with institutional research and acceleration infrastructure. Key elements of the partnership include:
Program Integration: Allowing early-stage companies under Pycap's incubation umbrella to leverage SICIEEIL’s structured business development workshops, mentorship networks, and campus resources.
Ecosystem Strengthening: Aligning with SICIEEIL’s mandate—backed by an initial foundational $25 million endowment—to cultivate a highly inclusive regional innovation framework across Scarborough and the wider Ontario tech corridor.
Regulatory Compliance & Growth: Guiding international founders through Canada’s Startup Visa Program by anchoring their business models within a comprehensive, local market environment to support long-term regional retention.

The Graduation and Pitch Competition
The completion of the LevelUp curriculum concluded with a formal graduation ceremony and live pitch showcase hosted by Elina Chow-Clark. To deliver professional feedback and asset evaluations for the competing businesses, Pycap participated directly on the expert judging panel alongside industry leaders, media figures, and investment professionals, including Pycap CEO Stuart Browne, Will Jee, Asim Khan, and Manjula Selvarajah.
The evaluation process utilized dedicated digital assessment parameters to analyze market feasibility, technology readiness, and capital structure viability. This direct connection between institutional accelerators like SICIEEIL and financial institutions like Pycap ensures that graduating early-stage ventures possess the localized training and investment readiness needed to scale within the Canadian market.
